United Nigeria Airlines launches direct Accra flights, names aircraft after Rawlings
United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has named an aircraft in honor of former Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings to celebrate his influence on West African integration. The airline also announced the launch of direct commercial flights between Lagos–Accra and Abuja–Accra. UNA Chairman, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, revealed the new routes during a mock exercise at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Okonkwo emphasized that the new routes and aircraft expansion aim to strengthen UNA’s role in West African aviation. He also highlighted the positive impact of Nigerian participation, noting that fares on the Lagos–Accra route dropped nearly 50% upon their entry. Okonkwo called for reduced aviation taxes and better financing options to foster growth and connectivity.
