Uttarakhand sees tourism boom with 23 crore visitors
Uttarakhand attracted more than 230 million visitors across three years as the state government expanded tourism infrastructure and promoted adventure activities, officials said. The influx benefited thousands of homestay operators, restaurant owners and transport workers, with over 6,000 homestay businesses directly gaining from increased travel.
Religious pilgrimages grew substantially, with five million people completing the Char Dham Yatra this year. More than 4,300 horse and mule operators served trekkers on the Kedarnath and Yamunotri routes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Adi Kailash boosted interest in border areas near the Pithoragarh district.
State authorities invested in digital platforms and transportation networks to attract international tourists from Asian and European markets. The government promoted winter travel seasons to extend economic benefits throughout the year. Foreign visitors increasingly participated in rafting, trekking, bungee jumping and mountaineering activities across remote destinations beyond major cities and established hill stations.
