Hanwha Systems partners with Diehl Defence on radar for air defense system
Hanwha Systems and Diehl Defence agreed on Tuesday to combine Korean radar technology with German missile defense hardware. The South Korean firm will supply its multi-function radar for integration with the IRIS-T SLM air defense platform, which has intercepted nearly all Russian airborne targets in Ukraine since late 2022.
The surface-to-air missile system protects against jets, missiles, and drones across 20 European nations through the European Sky Shield Initiative. NATO members launched the project after Russia attacked Ukraine to build continental air defense networks by 2030.
Hanwha Systems seeks its first European radar export through Diehl’s established supply networks. The companies will pursue joint sales in international markets beyond the continent.
