VFX data wrangler brings slasher sequel to life
Morgan Wright worked as a visual effects data wrangler on the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, capturing technical information that allows digital artists to integrate computer-generated imagery with live footage. Wright tracked cameras, recorded lighting references, and filmed background plates with Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro equipment.
The production recreated Reaper’s Curve from the original film in a different country. The team used previsualization and match-moving techniques across multiple camera plates. A practical hook provided lighting reference while digital versions replaced rubber props when necessary.
On-set supervisor Jon Dearing coordinated technical requirements between production and post-production teams. Wright emphasized that visual effects personnel support filmmaking rather than dominate it. The lounge room harpoon sequence combined practical and digital elements.
Wright advises aspiring on-set visual effects workers to learn camera operation and set protocols. Teams must recognize what post-production requires while maintaining proper workflow with other departments.
