ZFRPA marks decade in poultry with 4.5m chicks
The Zimbabwe Free Range Poultry Association marks ten years of advancing sustainable chicken farming and strengthening household nutrition across the nation. The organization delivered more than 2.5 million chicks to families through the Presidential Poultry Scheme under Rural Development 8.0, targeting 4.5 million birds for 450,000 households nationwide. Membership expanded from managing 23 million free-range chickens in 2015 to 63 million by 2024 through education programs and industry partnerships.
The association established production standards with government agencies and secured contracts worth over 30 million dollars for its 5,700 registered members. Women and youth comprise 80 percent of participants who receive training in disease control, feed preparation and business operations. The group connects with 100,000 farmers through online platforms and extends support to 250,000 producers via the presidential program.
Chairperson Golden Aaron Shamu oversees strategic planning while Chief Executive Officer Beauty Jiji manages operations from the Harare headquarters. The association promotes indigenous and purebred varieties of chickens, ducks, turkeys and guinea fowls for commercial markets. Plans call for provincial offices to expand services and strengthen market connections for conventional, natural and organic poultry products meeting international quality benchmarks.
