Acronis survey finds tech women call for leaders
More than 80 percent of women say additional female leaders would strengthen workplace culture in technology, a cybersecurity and data protection firm reported on Thursday. The survey from Acronis revealed sharp differences between men and women regarding career prospects, workplace obstacles and advancement barriers in the sector. Women identified bias, work-life balance difficulties and limited leadership access as major concerns.
Only 60 percent of women said men and women receive equal career development opportunities, compared with 75 percent of men. More than 60 percent of women reported that work-life balance issues significantly affect career advancement for women, while just 49 percent of men agreed. Over 40 percent of women identified bias and stereotypes as the primary barrier for females entering cybersecurity careers, versus 33 percent of men.
Alona Geckler, senior vice president of business operations at Acronis, said organizations must recognize these disparities and create programs that expand leadership opportunities and address bias directly. The research surveyed more than 650 information technology professionals across eight countries.
