ADB to invest $300 million in Bangladesh projects
The Asian Development Bank plans to invest roughly $300 million in Bangladesh by 2027 through two separate infrastructure initiatives targeting water systems and urban growth. Officials from the Economic Relations Division confirmed the Manila-based lender will allocate $150 million for water supply and sanitation work in 22 coastal communities, with the Department of Public Health Engineering managing implementation.
Another $150 million will support the third City Region Development Project in Mymensingh and Rajshahi, where the Local Government Engineering Department will oversee construction of roads, markets and drainage systems. The bank’s country director said discussions with government officials continue about specific locations and components for the third phase.
ADB provided $2.52 billion to Bangladesh in fiscal 2024-25 and maintains a portfolio worth $11.8 billion across 51 active projects. Since 1973, the development bank has delivered $33.95 billion in loans and $571.2 million in grants to the South Asian nation.
