Adobe dives into AI music battlefield
Adobe introduced soundtrack-generation software for videos via its Firefly artificial intelligence platform on Wednesday. The Generate Soundtrack feature creates licensed instrumental music from written descriptions and automatically adjusts its length to match the video’s duration. The company trained its audio model using content from Adobe Stock and public domain materials rather than unauthorized sources.
The tool distinguishes itself from competitors Suno and Udio, which face lawsuits from recording companies over unlicensed training data. Adobe offers free access with limitations and paid subscriptions starting at $9.99 monthly for additional video creation capacity. The platform incorporates technology from partners such as Google, OpenAI and ElevenLabs.
Firefly provides additional features, such as video editing that connects images with transitions and voice narration generation for clips. The suite joins other services that integrate artificial intelligence into media production tools. Swedish company Epidemic Sound recently released software that modifies licensed tracks while preserving artists’ rights to compensation.
