Delos Insurance expands wildfire coverage in California
Delos Insurance Solutions will add 265,000 Southern California homes to its wildfire coverage after upgrading its risk assessment technology. The managing general agent uses satellite imagery and wildfire science to evaluate properties in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, bringing its total coverage to 2.5 million homes.
The company says 65 percent of homes labeled high risk by standard models qualify as medium or low risk under its system. Delos was established in 2017 by aerospace engineers who developed models that have predicted all major California fires over the past 7 years.
The firm plans to introduce commercial property and high-value home products after raising $9 million in late 2024. Traditional insurers have reduced coverage in wildfire zones, creating gaps that technology-focused underwriters aim to fill.
