Algeria starts Bogzol space communications center
Algerian authorities have initiated construction of a backup space communications facility in Bogzol, Al-Madiyah State, intended to provide operational continuity for national satellite systems. Minister of Posts and Wire and Wireless Transport Said Ali Zorouqi oversaw groundbreaking ceremonies for the installation, which will complement the existing Greenery Center through redundant infrastructure capabilities.
The 30,000-square-meter complex received site selection based on low seismic risk factors, extensive fiber optic network availability, and highway accessibility connecting Shafa and Bogzol. Location advantages include proximity to the Algerian Space Agency headquarters, while investment totaling one billion dinars is projected to support employment generation throughout construction and subsequent operations.
Government officials characterized the development as strengthening telecommunications resilience and maintaining essential services across multiple sectors requiring satellite connectivity.
