CSOs urge Senate to confirm Ramat as NERC chairman
A group of civil society organizations has urged the Senate to approve Abdullahi Ramat’s appointment as chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, warning that failure to act within 48 hours could trigger demonstrations at the National Assembly and NERC facilities. Leaders Danesi Momoh Prince and Igwe Ude-Umanta addressed reporters in Abuja on Monday, characterizing the confirmation delay as political interference that obstructs President Bola Tinubu’s power sector transformation objectives.
The coalition noted that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s Power Committee completed screening procedures and forwarded Ramat, along with nominees Abubakar Yusuf and Fouad Olayinka Animashaun, for approval on October 22, 2025, yet legislative action remains pending. The advocates highlighted Ramat’s credentials as a Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria Fellow, Harvard graduate, former Kano State Metropolitan Agency managing director, and current AG Ramat Global Electrical director, asserting his technical qualifications warrant swift confirmation to advance energy sector improvements.
