Bangladesh approves fertilizer imports, godown construction
Bangladesh’s government purchase committee approved fertilizer imports totaling 105,000 metric tons and warehouse construction projects on Thursday. Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the 42nd virtual meeting that authorized three separate fertilizer acquisitions from Morocco, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. The Agriculture Ministry will import 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer from Morocco at $735.33 per ton and 35,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Russia at $356.25 per ton through the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation.
The Industries Ministry received approval to bring in 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea from Saudi Arabia at $413.33 per ton for fiscal 2025-2026. Officials also endorsed construction of a 10,000-metric-ton storage facility in Barguna under a project building 34 buffer warehouses nationwide. The contract, worth 51.74 crore taka, will be awarded to the MBL-REL Joint Venture in Dhaka to strengthen fertilizer distribution infrastructure.
