Pacific Group reopens 8 factories in Chattogram EPZ
Pacific Group will restart operations at its eight garment plants in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone on Thursday after worker protests subsided. The facilities closed indefinitely on Oct. 16 under the Bangladesh EPZ Labor Act 2019 when demonstrations and property damage occurred. Management held talks with employees that resulted in a calmer atmosphere, said Chief Operating Officer Suhrid Chowdhury.
The factories employ more than 40,000 people across Pacific Jeans-1, Pacific Jeans-2, Pacific Attire, Pacific Accessories, Pacific Workwears, Universal Jeans, HT Fashion, and Jeans 2000. Managing Director Syed Mohammad Tanvir issued a notice directing all staff members to return to their regular shifts. The company decided conditions had stabilized enough to resume production after the two-week shutdown.
