Billboard Global Charts to add China streaming data with TME
Tencent Music Entertainment Group reached an agreement with Luminate to feed Chinese consumption figures into Billboard charts for the first time, addressing what both parties described on Wednesday as a longstanding representation void in global music rankings.
The entertainment data firm will analyze activity across QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music and JOOX through the TME Chart, with information becoming available to subscribers using the CONNECT platform within weeks. Billboard will add the Chinese metrics to its worldwide rankings at an unspecified future point. Luminate chief executive Rob Jonas characterized the arrangement as pivotal for delivering comprehensive global measurement, noting customer expectations for data from influential markets. TC Pan, a group vice president at TME, said the collaboration establishes unified content ecosystems through data connections. Tencent platforms served 553 million monthly active listeners and 124.4 million paid members during the second quarter of 2025, with approximately 15 million holding Super VIP status.
Luminate has pursued international expansion to build comprehensive databases, currently monitoring over 60 nations after recent additions in Middle Eastern and African territories. Billboard previously obtained limited Chinese information through the UNI Chart that debuted in early 2023.
