India pushes New Zealand for FTA deal, delays mount
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal arrived in New Zealand on Wednesday to assess developments in bilateral trade talks between the nations. The minister plans meetings with business executives and investors to identify partnership opportunities while evaluating negotiations for a comprehensive economic agreement.
The fourth round of discussions began in Auckland on Monday and continues through Thursday as both governments work toward creating a balanced deal following months of technical exchanges. Goyal expressed appreciation to his counterpart, Todd McClay, for the reception and emphasized their shared goal of accelerating the process toward a mutually advantageous arrangement.
The minister’s schedule features multiple events designed to enhance commercial and innovation connections. A business forum bringing together leaders from both countries will take place during the afternoon hours, followed by a gathering with members of the Indian community. Representatives from New Zealand’s chambers of commerce and government agencies are expected to participate in these sessions, which aim to strengthen cooperation between private sector organizations and advance the economic relationship between the trading partners.
