Billboard to add China streaming data to global charts
Billboard Global Charts will soon integrate Chinese music consumption statistics after research firm Luminate secured an agreement with Tencent Music Entertainment Group. This development marks the first time data from the world’s second-largest music market will appear in Billboard’s worldwide rankings. Luminate serves as Billboard’s official charts partner and will incorporate streaming figures from TME’s platforms, including QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music, and JOOX.
The arrangement addresses a significant gap in international music measurement according to both organizations. Luminate chief executive Rob Jonas called the partnership essential for providing accurate global industry insights. TME executive TC Pan described the collaboration as creating a unified worldwide content framework. Chinese streaming data will initially become available through Luminate’s CONNECT service before appearing in Billboard’s global charts at a later date. This expansion builds on Luminate’s ongoing efforts to establish comprehensive worldwide music tracking across more than sixty countries.
