BSC adds bulk carrier MB Banglar Pragati to fleet
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation will receive a 65,000-ton bulk carrier on Friday from China’s Xingjiang Nanyang Shipbuilding Company Limited. The vessel, named MB Banglar Pragati, stretches 199 meters and features a German-licensed engine assembled in China, Spanish pumps, and Norwegian compressors. The corporation paid $38.349 million for the ship through direct purchase after international tenders opened in June, with a second vessel arriving in December.
The state enterprise bought both carriers for 935 crore taka using internal funds rather than foreign assistance. Officials expect the pair to generate 200 crore taka annually while meeting International Maritime Organization environmental standards for carbon and nitrogen emissions. The ships reduce fuel consumption through improved hull design that cuts water and wind resistance during operations under the Bangladeshi flag.
