BIBM urges AI adoption in Bangladesh bank security
Most banks in Bangladesh lack artificial intelligence security systems despite growing cyber threats, according to research from the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management. The study found 46 percent have no automated defenses, while another 24 percent remain in planning phases for AI adoption. Only 27 percent use partial automation for basic repetitive security tasks, and just 3 percent operate fully automated systems.
Researchers presented findings on Thursday at a discussion where Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar called for increased investment and training. Professor Md. Shihab Uddin Khan said banks show caution toward AI-driven protection despite urgent needs. The institute recommends stronger regulatory guidance to help financial institutions move from proposals to actual deployment of intelligent threat response capabilities.
