Chaudhary leads skill development mission to Philippines
Indian Skill Development Minister Jayant Chaudhary traveled to Manila this week with federal and state officials for meetings organized by the World Bank. The delegation met representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Philippine Statistics Authority, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. Officials from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana joined the trip to exchange information on workforce training, labor migration, and policy development.
Trade between the two nations reached $3.53 billion in fiscal 2023-24 after crossing $3 billion for the first time in 2022-23. India exported $350 million worth of goods to the Philippines through March 2024 while importing $92.3 million, creating a $258 million surplus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Cebu province earlier this month and affected neighboring areas across central and southern Philippines.
