Chikanga lover kills soldier over affair
A Mutare man was fatally stabbed by a rival after discovering him with his girlfriend at her residence in the early hours of Thursday. Kumbirai Mugona attacked Abbiton Mangena with a knife at a Mountain Rise property, where witnesses observed the assault. Mangena died after arrival at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
Mugona had maintained a relationship with Lucy Saunyama and returned to her home after departing earlier that evening. He found Mangena inside her room and stabbed him twice before surrendering to authorities at Chikanga Police Station. Neighbors attempted to intervene but were unable to prevent the second attack.
Witnesses reported that Mugona had been paying rent for Saunyama’s accommodation and visiting regularly. Tenant Musa Chinamhora said the victim called for help while lying in the corridor. Resident Tendai Madziwa said she urged Mugona to stop but he continued the assault despite her appeals.
