Code Forces lands third at Absa GirlCode Kampala
Code Forces, a Ugandan team that won the Absa GirlCode 2025 hackathon in Kampala, placed third at the continental finals, where eight African cities competed. The group developed Teleka, a student savings application that helps users manage and invest their funds. Team members Ann Treasure Karagwa, Ayan Mustafa Abdirahman and Shakiran Nanyombi are third-year software engineering students at Makerere University.
Tanzania’s Tokiva Sisters claimed first place and received 100,000 rand for their financial management platform, while Tech Gullies from Johannesburg finished second. The 30-hour competition brought together participants from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Accra, Nairobi, Kampala, Dar es Salaam and Gaborone. Absa expanded its sponsorship from three countries in 2024 to five in 2025, supporting GirlCode’s goal to train 10 million women and girls in technology by 2030.
