ADB plans $2.5B investment boost for Bangladesh projects
The Asian Development Bank plans to increase funding for infrastructure projects in Bangladesh to benefit more municipalities and residents. Country Director Hoe Yun Jeong said the Manila-based lender wants to expand successful initiatives across the nation after visiting ADB-supported sites in Patuakhali and Khulna.
The agency may provide around $2.5 billion in 2026 for at least 10 development projects, according to Finance Ministry officials. This continues the institution’s support as Bangladesh faces climate challenges in coastal regions where salinity threatens communities and economic activity.
ADB manages a $11.8 billion portfolio across 51 active projects in the South Asian country. The development bank supplied $2.52 billion in the last fiscal year and committed $2 billion in additional assistance.
The lender has delivered $33.95 billion in loans and $571.2 million in grants to Bangladesh since 1973. Future investments will adopt integrated approaches linking urbanization with industrial growth to transform towns into economic centers.
