DEFECT gameplay revealed at Galaxies Gaming Showcase
Independent studio emptyvessel revealed gameplay footage for DEFECT at the Galaxies Gaming Showcase. The cyberpunk first-person shooter from two former id Software developers places four-player squads in a futuristic city controlled by an artificial intelligence system called THE SYSTEM. Players select from competing factions such as government police, corrupt officers and criminal gangs to complete objectives like smuggling weapons or capturing targets.
The game removes automatic health regeneration and requires players to locate healing stations with limited charges. Environments feature destructible walls that create dust clouds for tactical advantages or emergency escapes. Players can manipulate furniture to build temporary cover or obstruct pathways.
emptyvessel secured $11 million from NCSOFT, 1AM Gaming and Black Phoenix Games to complete development and add single-player content plus console versions. The PC release will support level editing tools and local network multiplayer modes through Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG. The studio has not announced a launch date.
