M5 MacBook Pro runs cooler than M4 under load
Apple reduced operating temperatures in the M5 MacBook Pro compared to the previous M4 model while keeping the same single-fan cooling system. YouTube channel Max Tech tested both 14-inch laptops under stress conditions and found the M5 reached 99 degrees Celsius while the M4 exceeded 114 degrees Celsius. The newer processor drew slightly more power but maintained better thermal control through either aggressive fan management or improved thermal paste application.
The base M5 MacBook Pro uses a single fan and a single heat pipe to manage processor heat. Both models struggled to prevent thermal throttling during demanding benchmarking. Apple may introduce dual-fan cooling systems for the upcoming M5 Pro and M5 Max variants expected in early 2026. The current Space Black M5 MacBook Pro retails for $1,584 through Amazon.
