DisCos install 70,888 new meters in August 2025, NERC says
Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies added 70,888 meters during August 2025, bringing the total number of metered customers to 6.58 million, according to data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. The metering rate climbed to 55.01 percent from 54.71 percent the previous month as active customers increased to 11.96 million.
Eko led all distributors with an 84.83 percent metering rate, followed by Ikeja at 84.25 percent and Abuja at 73.92 percent. The commission recently authorized 28 billion naira for distribution companies to purchase and deploy meters for unmetered customers in Band A and Band B service categories.
The regulator established the Meter Acquisition Fund after distribution companies struggled to obtain financing through debt or equity for meter procurement and other infrastructure investments. The allocation will be distributed proportionally based on each company’s contribution toward closing the metering gap and improving billing transparency.
