Energy elites talk reforms, lights stay off

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu told attendees the federal administration remains dedicated to executing the Electricity Act 2023 while expanding commercial sector involvement. He described current reforms as opening pathways for capital inflows while enhancing service dependability and consumer access nationwide. Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, speaking through Commissioner Biodun Ogunleye, highlighted state-level initiatives following the passage of the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024, which establishes regulatory structures and welcomes private investment for localized power markets.
Discussion sessions examined urgent sector needs such as public-private arrangements, regulatory clarity and coordination among governmental levels. Presenters stressed that achieving sustainable electricity development demands synchronizing policy reforms with financing mechanisms and technological advancement, while energy efficiency measures form essential components of transformation efforts across generation and distribution networks.
