Enko Capital raises $100 million for impact fund
Enko Capital closed its first fundraising round on Tuesday, securing $100 million from development banks and African investors to fund loans to medium-sized businesses. The asset manager targets $150 million for its private credit fund that provides dollar financing to established companies across sub-Saharan Africa.
British International Investment and the International Finance Corporation led commitments alongside pension funds and family offices from the continent. The strategy addresses financing shortages for profitable firms in agriculture, telecommunications and renewable energy that struggle to access traditional bank credit.
Managing partner Alain Nkontchou said the fund supports job creation while delivering returns to investors through customized capital solutions. BII chief Leslie Maasdorp said the investment signals the commercial viability of private lending markets that help African economies expand.
