Equinix to invest $22 million in new Lagos data center
Equinix plans to launch a 22 million dollar data center in Lagos during the first quarter of 2026, representing the initial phase of a 100 million dollar infrastructure expansion across Africa over two years. West Africa Managing Director Wole Abu stated the LG3 facility will enhance access to cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies while supporting startup growth in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. The installation will integrate Equinix Fabric technology, allowing companies to establish secure connections between physical infrastructure, virtual systems and cloud providers across the global network.
Lagos ranks as the sole African city among the world’s top 100 startup hubs, positioning Nigeria’s commercial center at the forefront of continental digital transformation. Vice President for EMEA Growth and Emerging Markets, Aslihan Gurescier, noted that rising internet penetration and demand for secure data infrastructure are accelerating technology adoption across the region. Since entering African markets in 2022, the company has established operations in Ghana, the Ivory Coast and South Africa, leveraging Nigeria’s strategic location as a connection point for international submarine cable systems linking Africa with Europe and Asia.
