Eutelsat, Paratus expand LEO deal in Africa
Eutelsat signed a multi-year contract with Paratus to broaden OneWeb Low Earth Orbit satellite connectivity throughout Southern Africa, targeting fixed installations and mobile communications across South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. The agreement builds on an existing relationship where Paratus has distributed geostationary services and began using OneWeb capacity while constructing an Angolan teleport facility that serves as a regional ground station.
Regional Vice President Ghassan Murat said the partnership addresses growing demand for resilient connections in remote sectors by combining orbital capabilities with established terrestrial networks. Chief Executive Schalk Erasmus noted that dual satellite technology provides customers with flexible performance supporting digital initiatives across challenging African environments.
