MTN MoMo chief fights mobile fraud in Ghana
MTN Mobile Money Limited is strengthening measures to combat fraud in Ghana’s financial technology sector. Chief Executive Officer Shaibu Haruna announced that the company works with regulators and police to address digital scams that threaten industry growth. He made the statement at a media roundtable on Wednesday, October 22.
The firm has invested in security systems and AI-powered prevention tools. Haruna said the company uses advanced fraud-detection and anti-money-laundering programs. MTN launched the Shine Your Eye campaign and community outreach in high-risk areas to educate users.
The executive emphasized that technology alone cannot solve the problem without improved digital literacy. Public education efforts use social media and local broadcasts to reach communities. Haruna described fraud as an industry-wide challenge that requires cooperation among media outlets, banks, and enforcement agencies.
MTN partners with the Economic and Organised Crime Office to investigate violations and pursue legal action against criminals. The company maintains its commitment to protecting customers through continued collaboration with government bodies. Haruna stressed that safeguarding mobile money operations depends on unified efforts across all stakeholders.
