Festive cheer lifts India consumer sentiment
Indian consumer confidence rose 1.4 percentage points in October 2025 as festival celebrations and tax reductions boosted household spending power. Market researcher Ipsos reported that goods and services tax reforms lowered living costs and allowed families to save more money for discretionary purchases. The positive shift reflected greater optimism about employment prospects, personal finances and economic conditions across the country.
Indonesia recorded the largest regional gain at 6.5 percentage points while Thailand added 3.6 points and South Korea increased 2.6 points. India ranked second among 30 surveyed nations with a national index score of 58.4, behind Indonesia at 58.8. Argentina posted the steepest global decline at 3.5 percentage points, followed by Colombia, which dropped 3.1 points. No country reached the 60-point threshold for three consecutive months as worldwide consumer sentiment remained moderate.
