India shifts focus to resilient renewable energy systems
India shifted its renewable power strategy from expanding generation capacity to building reliable infrastructure capable of consistent electricity delivery. The New and Renewable Energy Ministry reported the nation’s clean energy output has increased fivefold since 2014, reaching 197 gigawatts without large hydroelectric facilities. Officials target 500 gigawatts of non-fossil generation by 2030 through improved grid connections, battery storage systems and wholesale market changes.
Approximately 40 gigawatts of approved projects approach final power purchase and transmission agreements while state and federal agencies requested bids for 9.1 gigawatts of additional capacity. Private industrial buyers plan to install nearly 6 gigawatts this year through independent procurement channels. The government allocated 24 trillion rupees for transmission network upgrades linking renewable production zones with population centers. Annual installations between 15 and 25 gigawatts place the country among global leaders despite economic pressures affecting equipment costs and supply chains.
