Gabon to pilot digital education project for remote learning
Gabon plans to roll out a pilot digital learning program in Libreville and Oyem in late November 2025 aimed at connecting 2,200 public primary schools to the internet. The initiative, backed by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, is presented as part of wider efforts to modernize public administration and classroom instruction. Officials said the effort will target distance teaching for science subjects where several provinces face shortages of qualified teachers and will supply schools with tools to widen access to online education.
Ministries are working with Huawei and Moov Africa Gabon Télécom to upgrade connectivity and build students’ digital skills, officials reported. Organizers described the pilot as a step toward equalizing educational opportunities across regions and strengthening the country’s digital foundations. The program also forms part of national strategy goals that promote infrastructure expansion, broader learning access, and long-term control over digital resources. Government representatives encouraged partnerships with development agencies and private firms to support a full national rollout after the pilot phase.
