NiDA hails Komolafe for global honors
A diaspora organization based in London has recognized the head of Nigeria’s upstream petroleum regulator for receiving two international honors during a recent ceremony at the United Kingdom Parliament. Gbenga Komolafe, who leads the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, obtained a professional doctorate in leadership focused on energy law from the International Business School of Scandinavia and received the Global Sustainable Leadership Award at the 2025 conference on sustainable education and leadership.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Assembly chapter in London stated on Saturday, crediting Komolafe with strengthening the country’s global standing through his regulatory work. The group highlighted his implementation of petroleum sector reforms and noted that the Host Community Development Trust has accumulated over 350 billion naira for infrastructure projects in oil-producing areas.
Active drilling rigs in the upstream sector increased from eight units in 2021 to 69 by October 2025 under his administration, representing growth exceeding 760 percent. Revenue collections surpassed government projections by margins ranging from 14.6 percent to 84.2 percent across multiple years.
