Gmaz purchases 35,000 tonnes of wheat from Arda
Zimbabwe’s grain millers have bought more than 35,000 tons of wheat from the Agricultural and Rural Development Authority this season and signed an agreement for 200,000 tons of white maize. The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe announced the deal in Harare as part of efforts to cut imports and support domestic food production.
Arda will grow and deliver maize to association members between April 2026 and March 2027 at a price of 355 dollars per ton. Deliveries will reach Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare under terms designed to stabilize supply chains and reduce foreign currency spending on imported grain.
Association secretary Moses Maunganidze said millers will purchase additional wheat over the next six to eight weeks before the marketing season ends. The structured arrangement aims to connect farmers directly with commercial buyers while creating opportunities for smallholder producers.
Arda operations director Shingirai Jenah said the partnership reduces reliance on imports and strengthens local agriculture. The program will involve women, youth and vulnerable communities in farming activities across the country.
