GOIL to invest $5 million in LPG storage expansion
GOIL will spend $5 million to expand liquefied petroleum gas storage by 12,000 metric tonnes within 12 months. Group Chief Executive Edward Abambire Bawa disclosed the plan at Africa Energy Week 2025 in Cape Town while discussing energy infrastructure development across the continent.
Ghana consumed 340 million kilograms of LPG in 2024 but current facilities hold only two to three weeks of supply. The company operates more than 438 service stations and runs two cylinder recirculation plants in Accra and Tema that deliver cleaner fuel access to households.
GOIL is building autogas stations across five regions and recently opened a polymer-modified bitumen terminal in Tema. The firm targets rural communities through digital payment systems that align with household budgets and cash flow patterns.
The expansion addresses storage constraints that limit monetization opportunities for producers, distributors and consumers. GOIL presented its energy portfolio at the Cape Town exhibition alongside representatives from the Gas Exporting Countries Forum and PetroSA.
