Google, AfCFTA launch SME AI skills program in Africa
Google has partnered with the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat to deliver artificial intelligence and digital commerce training for small and medium enterprises throughout the continent. The AfCFTA Digital Inclusion and Entrepreneurship Programme will extend Google Hustle Academy resources to businesses in 19 member nations, including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, and Ethiopia.
UpSkill Universe will administer instruction across three areas: cross-border digital commerce operations, cloud platform integration using Google Workspace and Google Cloud, and productivity automation through artificial intelligence applications. Course materials appear in English, French, Arabic, and Portuguese to accommodate regional language requirements.
Businesses operating for at least six months in participating states may apply for the program, which targets sectors that generate approximately 80 percent of employment across Africa. The initiative builds on Google Hustle Academy’s work supporting more than 18,000 enterprises since its 2022 establishment.
