Tokyo ceremony launches Africa Asia PPP platform
Senior officials from the African Development Bank Group, University of Pretoria, and University of Tokyo have established an Africa-Asia Platform for Public-Private Partnership Initiatives during a United Nations University gathering in Tokyo. The collaborative framework receives financial backing through Japan’s Policy and Human Resource Development Grant, administered by the African Development Bank, supporting knowledge exchange activities, research capacity enhancement, and structured dialogue between continental partners.
The platform advances commitments established at the TICAD9 conference held in Yokohama, focusing on innovation-driven development through inter-university networks and joint problem-solving mechanisms. Officials emphasized opportunities for youth entrepreneurship and economic advancement through modern partnership models connecting both regions.
The initiative complements existing African Development Bank programs, including Pan African University Phase 2 and the ENNOVA innovation ecosystem, which provides market intelligence resources, capacity training, funding access, and digital infrastructure for innovators across the continent.
