GX Group bets big on India photonics
Netherlands-based telecom equipment manufacturer GX Group launched GX Quantum Photonics Private Limited on Friday to produce advanced photonics modules and chip systems in India. The company committed 500 crore rupees for what it calls the country’s first photonics chip development and manufacturing facility with research capabilities. Invest International of the Netherlands backs the venture through a partnership with SMART Photonics BV, a leading producer of indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits.
The facility will manufacture optical components for broadband networks, 5G and 6G systems, and quantum communication technology. Company leaders say the project aims to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen India’s position in the 50 billion dollar global photonics module market. The venture expects to create more than 300 manufacturing jobs while supporting artificial intelligence data centers, electric vehicle sensing systems, and quantum communications.
GX Group CEO Paritosh Prajapati said the initiative aims to establish India as a global center for photonics manufacturing. The company has applied for government incentives under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for electronics manufacturing. Industry analysts project the global photonics sector will grow from 920 billion dollars in 2023 to 1.64 trillion dollars by 2032.
