Halo – Campaign Evolved remake sparks fan debate
Halo Studios released Halo: Campaign Evolved at the Halo World Championship this weekend, marking the first remake of the 2001 shooter that launched Microsoft’s flagship franchise. The Unreal Engine 5 version arrives in 2026 for personal computers, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation 5 systems.
Original designer Jaime Griesemer criticized level modifications after reviewing gameplay footage. He noted developers removed rocks that prevented vehicles from bypassing combat encounters with Hunter enemies. The changes eliminate vehicle stunts that players discovered in the original release.
Franchise co-creator Marcus Lehto praised the remake after attending the championship event. He said the updated version captures the spirit developers wanted to achieve in 2001. The visual improvements meet his expectations for modernizing the classic campaign.
