JPMorgan opens $3bn Manhattan tower, 270 Park Ave
JPMorgan Chase opened its new 60-story Manhattan headquarters on Tuesday, marking a return to traditional office environments after pandemic disruptions. The Midtown Tower at 270 Park Avenue costs roughly 3 billion dollars to construct and will house 10,000 bank employees by late 2025. Chief Executive Jamie Dimon led ceremonies for the building that replaced a demolished structure at the same site where workers also rebuilt a Long Island Railroad terminal.
The project began just as COVID-19 emptied the city in March 2020, leaving JPMorgan committed to construction despite uncertainty about office space demand. New York vacancy rates have since fallen to five-year lows after reaching 19 percent in late 2023. The tower runs entirely on hydroelectric power from a state facility, making it the largest all-electric skyscraper in the city with zero net emissions.
