iFixit calls M5 iPad Pro repair nightmare
iFixit has assigned the new Apple M5 iPad Pro a provisional repairability score of 5 out of 10, labeling it one of the company’s least repairable devices, despite some improvements. The tablet measures just 5.1 millimeters in thickness, allowing its screen to sit flush against internal components. Replacing the battery still requires removing the large, fragile display, which is held in place entirely by adhesive and lacks any securing screws. Technicians must heat the adhesive and use clamps with wedged picks to lift the screen.
Apple has released a self-repair manual for the device, and replacement parts are expected to become available in the coming months. These steps helped raise the repairability rating slightly compared to earlier models.
The M5 iPad Pro features a powerful system-on-a-chip with four performance cores running at 4.60 gigahertz and six efficiency cores at 2.95 gigahertz. It includes a 10-core graphics processor, a 16-core Neural Engine, and 16 gigabytes of unified memory delivering up to 153 gigabytes per second of bandwidth.
