IIT Madras deploys AppliedTwin with Applied Materials India
IIT Madras has joined forces with Applied Materials India to bring advanced semiconductor research tools to campus. The collaboration centers on AppliedTwin, a digital platform that simulates chip manufacturing equipment and processes for educational purposes. More than 150 students and faculty attended a training session on Thursday to learn the new system.
The technology allows researchers to test semiconductor production methods through computer models rather than physical equipment. IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti said virtual prototyping will cut both research costs and development time. The institute plans to build an actual chip factory with the Tamil Nadu government.
Applied Materials will provide multi-physics modeling software and a topography simulator called TOPO Plus to the university. Other schools and small businesses can access these tools through the Swayam Plus platform. Students will practice fabrication techniques digitally while India builds its manufacturing infrastructure.
