India courts Romania, touts deals as trade soars
India’s fast-growing economy presents major opportunities for Romanian businesses to join manufacturing and innovation projects through New Delhi’s Make in India program and Production-Linked Incentive plans, Commerce and Industry Minister of State Jitin Prasada said on Wednesday. He addressed Romanian companies at a business forum in Brasov that brought together leaders from automotive, aerospace, defense, renewable energy, engineering and technology sectors to discuss expanding investment ties and industrial partnerships.
The gathering featured talks on India’s policy changes, streamlined business regulations and regional incentives along industrial zones. Companies from both nations signed agreements and explored potential joint ventures and technology collaborations during the event. The forum represented a major step in strengthening India’s economic connections with Central and Eastern Europe, emphasizing long-term cooperation in sustainable manufacturing, clean energy and advanced technology fields.
Before the forum, Prasada met with Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu in Bucharest to discuss trade expansion and investment growth within the India-EU economic relationship. Both officials expressed commitment to finalizing a balanced India-EU Free Trade Agreement by year’s end. Trade between the countries reached approximately $2.98 billion in fiscal year 2023-24, with Indian exports to Romania surpassing $1.03 billion in fiscal year 2024-25.
