Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe calls for overhaul of Africa’s insurance sector
The Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe has transformed its annual conference into a continental forum called the Southern Africa Insurance Indaba, aiming to establish a regional platform for policy development and industry cooperation. President Clementine Chinyuku stated during the Victoria Falls gathering that African insurance markets must transition from reactive crisis management to proactive economic catalysts by addressing shared challenges, including minimal market penetration, climate disruptions and regulatory inconsistencies.
The institute is partnering with the National University of Science and Technology to introduce seven advanced diploma programs covering areas such as agriculture insurance, climate risk management and pension fund administration. Delegates from Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Cameroon, Zambia and the United Arab Emirates attended the event focused on expanding small business coverage, agricultural protection and technology integration across African insurance sectors.
