Intel, BOE chase battery life supremacy
Intel and BOE have partnered to introduce new AI-powered display features to laptops in 2026. These technologies aim to reduce power consumption while maintaining sharp image quality. One key feature is BOE’s 1Hz refresh rate technology, which reduces display energy consumption by 65 percent when displaying static content, such as documents or idle screens.
Two other tools round out the effort. The Multi-Frequency Display adjusts screen refresh rates in real-time by reading what appears on the screen, lowering them for still areas like the taskbar and raising them for video playback. SmartPower HDR trims power by adjusting the display voltage according to the brightness of the content, dimming darker scenes to conserve energy.
The companies say their joint work builds on a decade of collaboration. BOE, a major global supplier of LCD panels, and Intel plan to roll these features into laptops using Intel platforms next year. Their goal is longer battery life without sacrificing visual performance.
