iPhone 18 Pro to get telephoto aperture upgrade
Apple plans to upgrade the telephoto cameras in next year’s iPhone 18 Pro models with wider apertures and variable aperture controls, according to leaker Digital Chat Station. The premium devices will feature apertures larger than the F/2.2 opening found in current iPhone 17 Pro cameras, allowing more light to reach the 48-megapixel sensor for better low-light photography.
The variable-aperture system lets users manually adjust settings based on ambient conditions to capture sharper images and video. Apple first added a telephoto zoom lens to the iPhone 15 Pro Max and continues reserving advanced camera features for its highest-priced models.
The standard iPhone 18 will not arrive in September 2026 alongside other models, but will launch in early 2027 alongside the iPhone 18e. Apple may skip the iPhone 19 name entirely and jump to iPhone 20 for the base model, reports suggest.
