KCRW cuts 10% of staff including DJs Kramer, Sole, Galván amid federal funding loss
Santa Monica College radio station KCRW dismissed one-tenth of its workforce this week. The cuts affected veteran disc jockeys Jason Kramer, Jeremy Sole, and Jose Galvan after they spent between 14 and 27 years at the broadcaster.
Station president Jennifer Ferro said the layoffs prepare the organization for reduced federal support and shifting media consumption patterns. The Trump administration eliminated public broadcasting funding. KCRW previously reduced staff by one-fifth when the pandemic began in 2020.
The college-owned NPR affiliate lost programmers Anthony Valadez and Janaya Williams through voluntary departures last year. Management canceled the Greater LA program while addressing a 3-million-dollar shortfall. Kramer told followers the station remains important despite his exit.
