Keyamo urges courts, NCAA unite for air safety
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo asked judges and regulators to work together to strengthen passenger protections and legal standards in Nigerian air transport. He spoke on Tuesday at a Civil Aviation Authority conference in Abuja, where officials discussed applying international treaties to flight operations. The minister said fair dispute resolution builds public confidence and attracts foreign capital to the sector.
Chris Najomo from the aviation authority said courts must enforce global commitments with clear rulings that support safety and accountability. Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi told judges to interpret the Montreal Convention carefully while maintaining legal quality. The treaty governs airline liability for international flights and requires a balance between uniform rules and local procedures. Officials said effective collaboration helps resolve complaints about delays, lost baggage, and accidents through proper judicial channels.
