Lagos rewards 33 agripreneurs with N150 million for growth
Lagos State distributed 150 million naira among 33 young agricultural entrepreneurs recognized for advancing regional food production systems. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Sam Egube, emphasized that the commercial capital holds strategic positioning to transform farm-to-consumer supply chains across sub-Saharan Africa’s largest marketplace while citing the Netherlands as evidence that technological innovation can overcome geographic limitations.
The agriculture ministry established the Agrinnovation Club to connect emerging farmers with government transformation programs, including the Produce-for-Lagos initiative and Guaranteed Uptake Fund. Commissioner officials noted youth-driven innovations ranging from rooftop cultivation to digital buyer platforms demonstrate sector evolution beyond traditional methods. Authorities indicated the recognition aligns with a strategy launched previously to achieve self-sufficiency in nutritious food production through strengthened rural-urban market connections and private sector partnerships.
